Contrary to the multitude of rave reviews already posted for “Your Perfect Year” by Charlotte Lucas and Allison Layland, I couldn’t finish it. After thirteen chapters I still didn’t care who H.H. was or what information was in the diary or why Jonathan seemed to be having an identity crisis, if that was indeed what he was experiencing.
In my opinion, by 13 chapters the author should have you fully invested in the characters, for good or for bad.
With that said, I hate having to rate this book or any other that I feel compelled to DNF. Unfortunately Goodreads will not permit readers to review a book without assigning a rating as well. I know I’m not alone in wanting them to rethink and revise their policy on this issue. Well, the good news is I don’t often DNF a title. But as my byline indicates, there are so many books and so little time which is especially apparent to this octogenarian. (I’m 82 so who knows how much time I have left for reading or anything else?) I am thankful that my mind is still sharp enough to be able to do a passable job of reviewing.
So to all my readers out there, let me hear from you, good, bad or otherwise about what you’re reading, what you liked, didn’t like, and especially the ones you loved.
Happy New Year to you all!
