Memories Meant to Last – A review of “My Favorite Souvenir” by Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland

Souvenirs Keep Memories Alive

The dynamic writing duo has done it again! “My Favorite Souvenir” is romance at its best. Hazel’s fiancé Brady, came down with a classic case of cold feet right before the nuptials. So Hazel decided to use the already paid for resort accommodations in Vail. As she neared the resort, driving conditions turned into a near white-out as a massive winter storm front soon became a blizzard. Hazel arrived at her destination only to find the hotel had given away her cancelled room reservation and she might find herself sleeping on the lobby floor with a few dozen other stranded travelers. But she observed a hunky guy pretending to be someone else so he could steal one of the two reservations the hotel was holding for late arrivals. So Hazel pretended to be Milo Hooker’s sister so she could cop the second room. Thus began the adventures of Milo and Maddie Hooker as they spent the next two weeks going wherever they chose in the moment. Their relationship was platonic but undercurrents of desire were stirring and would not long be denied. They were both lugging emotional baggage so they made a promise to meet in New Orleans in three months if they were each able to shed their burdens and be truly available. Milo was especially wary of taking advantage of Maddie knowing she was vulnerable after being ditched by her fiancé. What began as a lark soon morphed into so much more, especially when their assumed identities came to light in the real world of Hazel and Matteo.

I can always count on Penelope Ward and Vi Keeland for original plots and characters that are more than simply believable. They’re people you can relate to and would enjoy spending time with and by the end of the book you feel like they’re your best friends. It was so easy to identify with both protagonists and their predicament. Their story is heartwarming and, at times, heart wrenching as well. A romantic tale that will pull you in and hold you to the very end. Five stars.
