Love Makes You Vulnerable – “Only You” by Melanie Harlow

What happens when a cynical divorce attorney gets it on with a dyed-in-wool romantic? In “Only You” Nate doesn’t believe in love, marriage, HEA or any of that happy, happy BS. His neighbor Emme is a wedding planner with terrible taste in men who seemingly attracts only jerks. Nate’s no jerk but he but he couldn’t be more different than Emme. Yet, opposites do attract and Nate and Emme succumb to that mutual attraction and everything seems copacetic until Nate has a baby left on his doorstep. Literally. Said baby, by the name of Paisley (who names a baby Paisley?) is the surprise product of one of Nate’s many one night stands. He doesn’t know the mother’s last name, or even where she lives. Guess that information didn’t seem important at the time. Nate knows zip about babies but with Emme’s help and guidance he gets the hang of diapering, bathing, and even calming a colicky baby. Paisley and Emme bring out the inherent goodness that resides in Nate’s heart and things are going swimmingly, until they aren’t.

This is a heartwarming neighbors to friends to lovers romance with some truly clever dialogue and a fairly uncomplicated plot. The character development of both Emme and Nate is complete and well done so that we readers can believe in them and in their behavior. Nate’s total immersion in baby care evoked many grins and more than a few laughs. Like his first experience with a dirty diaper that required a lot more cleanup than you can do with only a few baby wipes.

Author Melanie Harlow does some fine writing in this first book in the “One and Only” series and I’m looking forward to book two. Four stars.

Many thanks to author Kennedy Ryan for sharing through her newsletter a FREE download of this contemporary romance by Melanie Harlow. If you’re not a subscriber to KR’s newsletter, you’re losing out in more ways than one.

P.S. Can’t wait for KR’s “Power Duet” to be released in the Fall of 2019.
